Zhokinyi Still Dreams Of Warriors Recall
Guthrie Zhokinyu is still dreaming of a recall to the national team after resuscitating his career with Triangle in 2016 after spending nearly four years on the sidelines.
Zhokinyu was banned by the Cuthbert Dube led Zimbabwe Football Association executive over allegations of match fixing in the so called Asiagate scandal and spend close to four years out of football before he was given a lifeline by David Mandigora at Triangle at start of the 2016 season.
After an impressive return in which he was the vanguard of the Triangle defence, Zhokinyu believes he still has what it takes to play for Warriors again.
“I still have what it takes to play for the national team again. I still have the touch, actually I want to make up for the years that I spend out of football because of the ban,” said Zhokinyu.
“When I was on the sidelines, I continued to train on my own because I believed one day justice will prevail because I had done nothing wrong. I kept myself fit and that’s the reason why I managed to settle well at Triangle.
“I am pleased with my performance so far which makes me positive that sooner or later I will be able to play for the Warriors again,” he said
The former Dynamos captain also urged players who might find themselves in his situation in future not to lose hope but to keep focusing on fulfilling their dreams.
“My situation was a sad one and my advice to players who might find themselves in a similar predicament to never lose focus but keep pushing and achieve their goals.”
Zhokinyu was banned together with a number of other players and officials for allegedly fixing matches in Asia while on national duty even though no substantial evidence was presented to validate the allegations.
