Zamalek Wallop Wydad

Zamalek SC have given themselves every chance of reaching the CAF Champions League final after pummeling Wydad Casablanca 4-0 in the first of two semi-final legs.

Egyptian giants Zamalek enjoyed home ground advantage as the two former champions contested the match at the Borg el-Arab Stadium in Alexandria.

The Moroccan's would have wanted to try and take a postive result into the second leg but it was not to be as their defence was undone early.

Talismanic captain Shikabala had his name on the scoresheet before the ten minute mark as he arrowed a low effort from range into the bottom corner.

It got even better for the hosts in the 18th minute as Ayman Hefny doubled his side's advantage and Zamalek began to coast.

Shikabala and Bassem Morsy both came close before the interval as the pressure on Wydad was temporarily put on hold going into the break.

Three minutes into the second stanza and the hosts had bagged another with Morsy on target as his side's ambitions of reaching the final received a massive boost.

With less than 20 minutes remaining referee Daniel Bennet pointed to the spot after Mostafa Fathy was fouled in the box and the substitue picked himself up to score Zamalek's fourth from the spot.

Wydad now have a massive mountain to climb when they welcome Zamalek to the Stade du FUS on September 24 as the Egyptian side seek a seventh title.
