IN-FORM Young Warriors striker Prince Dube is confident that they will turn the tables on West Africa giants Cameroon when they clash in a crucial 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at Stade Omnisports in Bafoussam this Sunday.
The national Under-20 team are expected to leave tomorrow for the crucial match.
Zimbabwe had a goalless draw with the West Africans at the National Sports Stadium two weeks ago leaving them needing a scoring draw or a victory of any margin to progress to the last qualifying round.
The Highlanders forward is expected to lead the attack of the team and is hoping to convert his club’s performance to the national team.
Dube’s stock has been rising in the Castle Lager Premiership after graduating from the juniors.
He has since scored four goals and is being touted as one of the emerging talents in the country.
In the first leg he was a handful for the Cameroonian defenders although the game ended goalless.
Yesterday, he said he was looking to help Zimbabwe get the crucial away goals.
“I think we are going to win and I don’t see anything which will make us lose the match. We will try our best.
“I have been getting confident to play in front of big crowds with my club so it shouldn’t be a problem for me to play and score in Cameroon.
“They are good side, bigger and taller than us but we must win and I am looking forward to score,” said Dube.
Dynamos midfielder Peace Makaha returns to the fold after missing the last match through suspension.
Coach Mandla Mpofu said his return will give the team a fresh impetus.
Makaha is also looking forward to the match having last been part of the team in the 2-0 victory against Botswana.
He scored the second goal in Botswana after Bukhosi Sibanda had put Zimbabwe ahead in Gaborone.
“The match is very important to us, we know they are dangerous, they are physically bigger than us but we will give it our best.
“I have been working hard as an individual and in yesterday’s friendly (Tuesday) against Conway College, I managed to score again.
“We got into camp late but we are working hard so fair and fine,” he said.
The attacking midfielder reckons that it is not going not to be easy stroll away but believes the hosts would be under pressure.
“It will be difficult for us away but the good thing is if we manage to get an away goal it would be good for us. We didn’t concede a goal here so we are at an advantage especially if we get an early goal. If we score a goal in the first half, we will be good,” said Dube.
The team’s skipper Ben Musaka also believes his troops are geared for the task ahead and is confident they will get the desired result.
“I think from the first day everyone has been confident that we can get a win in Cameroon. We have been working well, everything is okay so we are just focused on the game.
“I am sure we can get a goal or goals, we can draw or win.
“In the last round we played well against Botswana in Gaborone and we want to use that to our advantage and try to upset them at home,” said Musaka.
The team which wins on Sunday will go through to the next round which will see the winner from the two legged matches joining the other nations that would have qualified for the Under-20 AFCON.
