Yabo Criticises Administrators
CRANBORNE Bullets coach Nesbert ‘Yabo’ Saruchera has taken a swipe at club owners and management in the Northern Region Soccer League that fire coaches without respecting the contract.
The hiring and firing of coaches in the NRSL is an indication that things are getting heated as the league turns 13 weeks tomorrow.
“There are no two ways about it, that league is too competitive but we are not encouraging clubs to hire and fire coaches,” Saruchera told Sportszone.co.zw.
At this stage, four teams in Karoi United, Golden Valley, Darwin United and Kariba Waves are without head coaches going into tomorrow’s games.
Karoi United are the latest to sack their whole coaching personnel of Levison Salous, Philip Hoyo and Steples Sibanda over a series of draws adding up to seven.
Golden Valley fired Raphael Phiri after eight matches that produced eight points whilst Darwin United haven’t had a head coach this season owing to contractual disagreements with Stephen Kaisi and Jotham Kavhayi.
“Firing of coaches is part our job but clubs must learn to pay him (the coach) up after. Someone with a contract is not just fired just like that,” Saruchera said.
“The norm is if they (club owners) think they want to move on they sit down with the coach and agree but clubs are just waking up and saying ‘we no longer need you’ just like that. That very bad.”
He added: “administrators must also learn to run the sport they love so much so that we develop our football. Sit down and talk to coaches not just make decision as if there is no contract.”
In other scenarios, Kariba Waves have a different case as they have given coach Shame Nemasango leave of absence from work while calling in Alexio Sigion as interim coach.
Meanwhile, Harare City Cubs recently subpoenaed Mkuphali ‘Mr Cooper’ Masuku to the head coach’s post to lead the technical department that also has Kelvin Togarasei and Tarisai Kaseke.
From the way it is, it doesn’t look like the hiring and firing of coaches is near ending this season. In fact, it’s just the beginning.
