We Wanted It More: Tambwera

OldGeorgians fly-half Lenience Tambwera says the only reason they won their GoldCup opener 18-20 over White River away in Nelspruit on Saturday was because “theywanted it more”.

It was alwaysgoing to be very difficult for the Harare side to prevail Down South but thedetermination, character, charisma and purpose driving the Dragons saw them notgive up till the last minute to get a late winner.

“Yes it was because the guys showed heart and a lot ofpassion we really wanted it. It was a great experience because as a team wemanaged to match the high intensity they (White River) gave us,:” said theSables and Cheetahs playmaker.

Largely a kicking game whose only try came from veteranforward Fortune Chipendu with less than five minutes to go, 33 of the pointscame off penalties Tambwera responsible for the Dragon’s 15 place kick points.

For the greater part of the game the Dragons led but WhiteRiver would always find a way to level the score. But it was towards the latterstages that the Groombridge-based side took a six point lead before the hoststook the lead for the first time.

And that was when the Old Georgian’s forwards came to theparty.

“It’s a great feeling. We really enjoyed every bit but itwas not easy though. Our forwards really played a big role in this victory andthe win has given us a boost to believe more in ourselves that we can handleanything.

“It has taught us that nothing comes easy we have to workreally hard for it,” added Tambwera.
