We Want Chibuku: Mapeza

Norman Mapeza says FC Platinum would want a second bite of the cherry by lifting the Chibuku Super Cup once again after winning it on its re-introduction in 2014.

FC Platinum failed to retain the cup last year bowing out in the quarter finals to Dynamos but would want to take it this year.

The Zvishavane based side will square up against Chapungu in a midlands derby in the first round of the tournament next week.

“Everyone wants the best things in life, so it’s the same as in football. You would want to keep winning everything that is on offer. We are not an exception, actually we would want to win this cup again after winning it in 2014,” said Mapeza.

Chapungu who lost out in the semi finals were also excited to be drawn against FC Platinum but hinted that it’s going to a be a tricky encounter.

“To me FC Platinum are the most complete team in the league and it’s always exciting to play against them,” said Chapungu coach john Nyikadzino.

“Being a Midlands derby, it’s going to be a very exciting match because bragging rights for the province will be at stake.

“Of course we respect them for what they have done in transforming the province in a short space of time they have been in existence, but  (we) also want to stand up and be counted,” he added.

FC Platinum overcame Harare City on penalties at Mandava stadium in the final in 2014 and went on to represent Zimbabwe in the CAF Confederations Cup in 2015 where they were booted out in the first round by Young Africans of Tanzania.
