We Learnt Our Lessons: Mitchell
Old Georgians coach Grant Mitchell says the Zimbabwe champions will go into their Gold Cup match against South African side Durban Collegians with a stronger mentality after the two opening matches of the tournament.
Mitchell told SportsZone that his side learnt their lessons in the first two games with the win away to White Rivers in South Africa giving them the much needed confidence while the defeat to False Bay gave them a test of character.
“We played two games so far in the Gold Cup and had a significant start to the tournament away from home, being one of the new teams in the tournament we managed to win our first game. It was a significant victory for us because we could measure our ability against South African opposition,” said Mitchell.
“The second match was also significant and historic in the sense that it was the first time in a longtime that we hosted a South African side on home soil. It has been decades since a South African club last travelled to Zimbabwe for a rugby match.
“We also learnt our lessons in that defeat because we gave away points easily. We are going to have a stronger mentality and concentration against Durban Collegians. We just need to be technically astute but generally I am impressed by the way we have applied ourselves in both matches, and I am really proud of the players, “added Mitchell.
Old Georgians lost 35-28 to False Bay last weekend conceding soft tries in the second half after having match the top ranked South African side in the first half.
