Watford 0-5 Manchester City: A Stroll In The Sun

Manchester City confirmed third spot and Champions League football next season with a crushing victory over Watford at Vicarage Road.

It took the visitors just five minutes to take the lead when Vincent Kompany headed home from the centre of the box into the top corner after Kevin De Bruyne had originally crossed in.

It was fair to say any hopes Watford had of coming back were all but over on 23 minutes when Sergio Aguero scored his first of two for the afternoon after he had been played through by De Bruyne, leaving the Argentinian to run through and slide the ball past Heurelho Gomes.

Manchester City added their third on 37 minutes after Leroy Sane strode down the left wing and then showed good skill to cut inside into the box, where he then squared the ball across to Aguero, who made no mistake in grabbing his second of the day.

The lead was extended further still three minutes before the break when Fernandinho brushed past some weak challenges and showed good composure to fire his effort low into the goal.

Watford manager Walter Mazzarri went into the game knowing it was his swansong and his lack of support amongst the home support was evident with the Vicarage Road faithful making their views known to the manager as his side went into the break four goals down.

The visitors scored their final goal of the afternoon on the 58th minute when Aguero moved through the gears down the right hand side and did well to pick out Gabriel Jesus, who then showed great skill to poke the ball past Gomes and a jumping Watford defender on the line to conclude the goal scoring for the day.

Watford can now concentrate on looking for a new manager and know they'll need to rebuild over the summer, as will the visitors, who know they must capitalise on their entry into the Champions League next season.
