Was CAF Qualifying Games Mapeza’s Last Supper?
FC Platinum Coach Norman Mapeza might have coached his last game when coached Zvishavane Premiership outfit against Angolan Side Desportivo Primero de Agosto in the 2018 Total CAF Champions League competition held in Angola and Zimbabwe.
Pure Platinum play was walloped 5-1 on aggregate by Agosto, marking their humiliating exit from CAF at the preliminary stage.
Reports from the club say that the Club’s Executive has already started scouting for a new coach who will take over reigns from Mapeza, as they are not happy with the team’s recent loss to the Angolan side.
“The leadership is not happy at all about the recent loss to Agosto. They have started scouting for coaches to take reigns from Mapeza because it appears that he could be shown the exit door before the season kicks off. The executive is also mulling to hand over the ropes to Assistant Lizwe Sweswe on a temporary basis“.
In preparation of CAF League Competitions, went on a recruiting spree casting their nets even beyond borders where they recruited Zambian Striker Shadreck Mayembe and Cameroonian forward Albert Eyonde although he did not include them in the clashed against Agosto.
He also recruited the likes of Rahaman Kutsanzira, Never Tigere, Kelvin Madzongwe and Farai Mupasiri amongst others.
Contacted for comment FC Platinum Media Liaison Officer Chido Chizondo refuted the claims saying people were just trying to stir up rumours.
“Honestly people are just trying to stir up the rumours. Yes, we did not reach the group a stage which was our target but Mapeza cannot be crucified for that since it was his first time in the CAF champions. As a team, we are taking it as a learning curve and now we are directing all our energy towards defending of the league title,” said Chizondo.
