Warriors Up Three Places In FIFA World Rankings

ZIMBABWE moved three places up to 112th on the latest FIFA World rankings released by the global football governing mother body Thursday morning.

The Warriors, who qualified for the 2016 Africa Cup of Nations Cup finals with a game to spare after walloping Malawi 3-0 at the National Sports on June 5, gained 29 points as they continue to edge towards the top 100.

Zimbabwe have been on a surge under Kalisto Pasuwa who is yet to lose a match in the Afcon qualifiers, winning three and drawing two on the road.

The Warriors play their last Afcon qualifier, now a dead rubber, against Guinea in Conakry later in September.

Zimbabwe are now 33rd on the African rankings where Algeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Senegal and Egypt form the top five nations.

Tunisia, Cameroon, Morocco, Congo DR and Mali complete the continent’s top 10 nations on the latest FIFA rankings.

Argentina who lost the Copa America final to Chile end of June remain the world’s best nation while the recently crowned European champions Portugal moved two places up the ladder to sixth.

There was also a significant jump for Euro 2016 hosts and runners up France who moved 10 places to seventh while surprise semi finalist Wales leaped 15 places to 11th.

Oceanic nation New Zealand were the biggest movers, jumping 54 places to 93rd on the back the OFC Nations Cup victory that qualified the All Whites for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.
