Warriors Ready To Rumble

LIBERIA Football Association president Musa Bility was a key ally of ZIFA president Philip Chiyangwa in a historic fight that ended former CAF president Issa Hayatou’s 29-year reign.

They both went on to land crucial posts within the continent’s football governing body.

That comradeship ends for at least 90 minutes on Sunday when the Warriors of Zimbabwe host the Lone Star of Liberia in a 2019 Afcon qualifier at the National Sports.

Liberia might be ranked 151 in the world, but the Warriors are not taking them for granted.

“The game has changed, there are no more smaller teams,” warned anchorman Danny “Deco” Phiri.

The Liberian squad which arrived in Zimbabwe last Thursday is largely made up of locally based players with their hope thrust mainly on the foreign based quintet called up by coach James Salinsa Debbah.

Liberian soccer.com – a website regarded as the home of Liberian football – has been heaping praises on rising local right back Prince Kennedy who starred for the Lone Star in a 1-0 friendly win over Sierra Leone last week.

“He works really hard as a right sided defender. He gets the crosses in as well as falling back when the opponents attack,” wrote the Liberian soccer.com.

The West Africans are also banking on Murphy Oscar Dorley who turns out for Trakai FC who ply in the Lithuania A Lyga.

Liberia have never beaten Zimbabwe, the last time they met the Lone Star lost 3-0 at the NSS.

Liberia’s best FIFA ranking was 73rd in 2001 when their squad still had the great George Weah.

The game kicks off at 3PM and the gate charges are pegged at a minimum of $3.
