Warriors Pay The Price
THE Warriors’ loss to Guinea in their last Afcon qualifier early September has cost Zimbabwe dearly on the FIFA rankings as the nation dropped three places to 113 on the latest schedule released by the world football governing body early Thursday.
Zimbabwe lost 0-1 to Guinea on September 4 in Conakry, in a match that was preceded by shoddy preparations which saw the Warriors arrive in the West African nation a few hours before kickoff.
The Warriors are the worst ranked nation among the 16 that have qualified for the 2017 Afcon finals which kick off in Libreville next January.
The Afcon draw will be conducted on October 19 and the Warriors are now sure to be drawn in the same group with at least two African giants.
Ivory Coast are now the continent’s top team followed by Algeria and Senegal while Zimbabwe are now ranked 35th on the CAF ratings.
Lionel Messi’s Argentina remain the top ranked nation in the world, Belgium are number two while Germany are fourth.
Colombia and Brazil complete the world’s top five.
