Warriors Job: ZIFA Speak On Chitembwe
The Zimbabwe Football Association has dismissed as falsehoods reports circulating on social media that the Association has appointed Lloyd Chitembwe as the new national team coach.
ZIFA are hunting for a new gaffer following the expiry of Kalisto Pasuwa’s contract yesterday and a number of local coaches have been linked with the job.
Speculation was rife this week that Chitembwe – who won the league championship with Caps United last season – would be handed the mandate to guide the Warriors while the Herald also tipped former Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas to succeed Pasuwa.
Former Warriors keeper Bruce Grobelaar has also declared his interest to coach the national team.
But it is Chitembwe’s name which has been talked up on social media to an extent that some reports made the public believe that the former Warriors defensive linkman had been appointed on an interim basis.
However, ZIFA through their spokesperson Xolisani Gwesela dismissed the reports on Wednesday afternoon.
“The Zimbabwe Football Association would like to dismiss falsehoods circulating on social media that the Association has appointed Lloyd Chitembwe as interim head coach of the Warriors.
“ZIFA Communications Manager Xolisani Gwesela never spoke to any publication regarding this matter and comments attributed to him are a concoction of falsehoods.
“ZIFA is yet to appoint a new coach to replace Kalisto Pasuwa and consequently the distasteful story should be dismissed with the contempt it deserves.
“Citizen journalists are urged to be ethical in propagation of information,” read a statement from ZIFA.
