TWO of the visiting regional teams at the ongoing Dairibord Schools Rugby Festival were on Monday handed their first defeats.
Zambia’s U-16 team who arrived late on Monday morning ahead of their fixture with Churchill U-16 at 1200hrs were humiliated to a 60-0.
On the same day Botswana’s U-19 team, Livingstone Kalobe College (LKC) were given a reality check by St Georges.
The match ended St Georges (The Saints) 36-19 LKC (The Jaguars).
However Botswana U-19 team, Livingstone Kalobe College (LKC) is looking forward to their next fixture against hosts Prince Edward Tigers despite the defeat.
The Jaguars (LKC) believe they were just outclassed with The Saints’ backlines who were better athletes.
Although St Georges were able to put in three tries before LKC could reply, the Jaguars fought hard after the break to force in three tries back and failed one conversion.
LKC coach, Taku Mhonda, who is also PE Tigers Old Boys member blamed stage fright on his charges.
“This was a big stage for my players and they lost focus during the first half, but as the match came from the break they began to take things easy and we caused a few problems for St Georges.
“I am happy we were able to score a few tries and we played our normal game but lost it when we had begun playing running rugby,” he said.
However they are promising a different game in their next tie against PE Tigers now that their nerves have settled.
Mhonda has predicted a tightly contested match against PE Tigers on Thursday.
“I am expecting the Tigers to bring the game to us on Thursday but we won’t be pushovers, we have everything to lose.
“We know they will be more polished and we will be doing our own homework,” he said.
There are four regional teams participating: Botswana U19, Livingstone Kalobe College, Zambia U16 and Windhoek Gymnasium.
There are also 2 International referees from Manchester, England.
