Veterans Speak On Soccer Stars Selection

FORMER Soccer Stars of the Year and veteran coaches concurred that the 2016 selection was fair and a true reflection of the talent that shone in the season.

They also believe the level of competition is rising in the top flight league.

SportsZone spoke to some legends at the selection venue Tuesday morning.

David “Yogi” Mandigora, 1980 Soccer Star of the Year and Triangle coach

“Yeah, I am satisfied with selection process. The players on that list all deserve to be there. It was a fair exercise.

“I was impressed with competitive nature of our league this season. Any team could win against any team, remember Highlanders lost at BF against Mutare City Rovers.

“However, I also feel my boy Malvin Gaki had a fair chance of making it into the final eleven.”

Sunday “Mhofu” Chidzambwa, ZPC Kariba coach and former Warriors gaffer

“It was a fair selection but I also thought Talent Chawapiwa from our club ZPC Kariba should have made it.

“But what a season we had, I was watching some replays on TV yesterday and I can tell you my brother our game has improved.”

Rahman Gumbo, Chicken Inn coach

“Once again we had a photo finish featuring CAPS United and Highlanders, it was an intriguing race. As for Chicken Inn we will see what we do next season because we were rebuilding the team.”

Tonderayi Ndiraya, Ngezi Platinum Stars coach

“It was good to have my own player Liberty Chakoroma on the list, I mean he did well for the team and as an individual.

“It was a very good season for us, winning the Chibuku Cup and providing a player on the Soccer Stars. I think it is a sign of better things to come for Ngezi Platinum Stars.”
