Unknown Striker Succeeds Where Mutuma Failed

Unheralded lower division player Everson Feremba is just about to succeed where celebrated Premier Soccer League striker Roderick Mutuma failed.

Feremba signed a pre-contract with Mozambique football champions Ferroviario de Beira last week and has already featured for his new side in the Mocambola league, the top-flight division in Zimbabwe’s eastern neighbor.

Last season Feremba (21) turned out for Ferroviario de Zimbabwe, an Epworth-based outfit that campaigns in the Zifa Harare Province Division Two.

He was spotted during the Mozambicans tour of Harare earlier in the year when they played two friendly internationals against Caps United and Ngezi Platinum, Zimbabwe’s representatives in Confederation of African Football (Caf) competitions this year.

Ferroviario de Beira are also taking part in the Caf Champions League and played a practice match against their Zimbabwean namesakes prior to the encounters against Caps and Ngezi.

Esmeralda Massingue, director of the Second Division side, said Feremba impressed de Beira coaches and they immediately indicated their interest soon after the game.

“Feremba is already in Beira with his new team. So far it’s a loan deal with a view to making it permanent after six months. He was not registered for the African Champions League since it was late when he moved but he is eligible to play in the domestic league and Iam told he has already played a couple of matches,’’ she told SportsZone.

Ferroviario de Beira had earlier trialled Mutuma but decided against signing him in circumstances that were not explained.

The gangly former Dynamos and Caps United striker has since found his home at Bulawayo giants Highlanders where Dutch coach Errol Akbay is optimistic of his capabilities.

Feremba joins two other Zimbabwean players at Ferroviario de Beira; goalkeeper Willard Manyatera and left-back Andrew Raelo.
