Under-13's Humbled At Craven Week

CAPE TOWN - The Zimbabwe Under-13 Schools rugby side suffered yet another defeat following a 30-7 loss at the hands of Border on day three of the Craven Wek Festival at Paarl Gymnasium.

Zimbabwe really never took control of the game and had to play second fiddle to Border who crossed the whitewash five times, added a penalty and one successful conversion against Zimbabwe’s one converted try.

The tourists got their only try of the game through Nkosana Sikala, three minutes into the second half and Alex Whitfield made full use of the bonus point kick to give Zimbabwe their seven points and making it their second loss in three games.

Tihamo Mjali’s brace – with a try in each half – Dwane Pharo’s try and conversion and a touchdown each by Ross Nicholson and Dwayne Pharo were all the South Africans needed to post a good victory over Zimbabwe.

Border could have won by a bigger margin, but on several occasions put to waste place-kicks that saw them erode four conversions with bishop and Pharo each missing twice.

Going into the break, Border were 13-0 leaders after Nicholson placed in the Zimbabwe in-goal with 13 minutes on the clock before Zixesa’s accurate boot added three point off a penalty while Mjali also scored a try, in a half Pharo missed both conversions.

But with three minutes into the second period, Zimbabwe caught Border napping and scored their only points of the game through a Whitfield converted Sakala try, reducing Zimbabwe arrears to 13-7.

And that was the last time Zimbabwe were to cross the whitewash.

Eight minutes on, Mjali added his second of the game and at the third time of asking, Pharo got his first successful conversion before Bishops 42nd minute try while Pharo made amends for his two missed conversions with a last mnute try.

Zimbabwe made three changes in the second half and first was Simbarashe Kanyangarara coming in for Rly Nyakura in the 37th minute before a 46th minute double substitution where David Yosa and Taona Mapani were introduced for the duo of Daniel Mazorodze and Takudzwa Zvomuya but fortunes never turned to their favor.
