Uhuru Cup defeats do not worry Chitembwe
Caps United coach Lloyd Chitembwe is not worried about his team’s performance in the Independence Cup in which Makepekepe lost twice in succession to rivals Dynamos and FC Platinum.
Makepekepe lost 0-1 to DeMbare in the Uhuru Cup semi final last Sunday before falling by the same score line to FC Platinum in a third and fourth play off at Barbourfields Tuesday.
“The Independence Cup is not what we really wanted achieve. The focus has always been on the Champions League and defending the league title.
“We are happy at Caps United, those Uhuru Cup served their purposes which was to assess some of the players we rarely have a chance to try out in serious games,” said Chitembwe during a presser at the club’s offices in Eastlea, Harare Thursday afternoon.
Caps United play Tsholotsho FC in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at the National Sports on Sunday anticipating to maintain their unbeaten league run at the giant facility.
Makepekepe have now gone for 23 games without tasting defeat in the league at the NSS.
However, Chitembwe feels it’s not all about records.
“It’s not all about records; we will respect every team that comes to play at the National Sports. All Premiership teams are equal,” he said.
Caps United beat Tsholotsho FC back to back last season but Chitembwe is not reading much into that statistic.
