Two Out, Four In - PSL To Have 18 Teams

It’s confirmed, two teams will be relegated from the Premier Soccer League and four will be promoted into the top flight.

But there seems to be no end in sight to the differences between Zifa and the Premier Soccer League after the football mother body issued this directive Friday afternoon.

The PSL have insisted that they can’t manage an enlarged 18 team league from the sponsorship packages they have.

The league and the football association have been at loggerheads after the Zifa council reversed an earlier decision that would have seen two teams being relegated and two being promoted at the end of the 2016 football season.

In the latest new twist to the saga that has dominated the close season, Zifa announced that four teams will be promoted effectively changing the league from a 16 to an 18 team league.

“The Zimbabwe Football Association Executive Committee hereby informs the football fraternity and the nation that TWO teams will be relegated from the Premier Soccer League in the just ended season and FOUR teams will be promoted into the top-flight league for the 2017 season,” said Zifa president in a statement.

As it stands Mutare City and Border Strikers will be relegated from the PSL with Shabanie Mine, Yadah Stars, Bantu Rovers and Black Rhinos gaining promotion.
