Twine Phiri To Return Next Year, Denies Links With Mashingaidze
FORMER Caps United owner Twine Phiri has come out of his shell, declaring that he is not an ally of Jonathan Mashingaidze, the former ZIFA employee who is engaged in a nasty fight with football boss Philip Chiyangwa.
Phiri has been dragged into an alleged plot to undermine Chiyangwa, which is being fronted by Mashingaidze who accuses ZIFA of a number of improprieties chief of them corruption and abuse of power.
Mashingaidze, in a 13-page document, revealed that he had been working with Phiri in trying to secure FIFA intervention on the matter.
He also claims that the former PSL boss was part of a delegation that met former FIFA representative Ashford Mamelodi in Botswana to air the grievances.
However, Phiri has come out guns blazing insisting he is not part of the Mashingaidze document stating that he has completely detached himself from football.
“Truly speaking, ever since I decided to step aside to take a rest, I shut my ears and closed my eyes to anything that has to do with football,” Phiri told The Herald.
“I don’t want my name dragged into football politics.”
Phiri has been in the shadows ever since he lost his position as PSL chairman last year.
He added.
“Of course there may be some people who may want to see me back in football but it’s unfortunate I have taken a decision. But, when the right time comes, I will return, probably next year.”
