Tostao Pays Tribute To His Father
His father Steve Kwashi was the CAPS United coach when Makepekepe won the title in 1996 and on Saturday Fungai “Tostao” Kwashi was also part of the technical team as the Green Machine clinched the league title at Ascot on Saturday.
CAPS United needed a win and they got it through Simba Nhivi’s solitary strike in the second minute while their closest rival FC Platinum also won against Tsholotsho – but that did not stop Makepekepe.
And Kwashi, who is Lloyd Chitembwe’s second assistant, could not forget his father in the hour of glory.
“To be where I am today is because of my father, he groomed me. He won it in 1996 and today (Saturday) I have won it as an assistant coach.
“I can’t fill his shoes because they are too big but I can only design my own. Glory be to God,” said Kwashi.
“I also want to give thanks to our head coach Chitembwe, he has given me a free role to express my ideas. He is a true brother.”
Kwashi worked with the strikers mainly, and the Premiership top goal scorer Leonard Tsipa’s form could partly be credited to the technical assistance he got from Kwashi.
“We want to thank the fans, they have been there through and through. Our president Farai Jere has been there for us.
“We deserve to celebrate,” said Kwashi.
