Top Zim Referee Gets Another Big Assignment

IN another clear sign of CAF’s confidence in local referees, top Zimbabwean referee Nomore Musundire has been given the task to handle the CHAN qualifier between Angola and Mauritius this weekend.

The continental soccer governing body has also announced that Swaziland referees will take care of the Warriors match against Namibia on Sunday.

Thulani Sibandze will be the center-man and he will be assisted on the lines by his country-men Petros Mzikayafani Mbingo and Zamali Thula Simelane whilst Mbongiseni Elliot Fakudze will be the fourth official in Harare.

The match commissioner, Bester Kalombo is coming from Malawi as the Warriors are seeking to overturn the 1-0 defeat they suffered in the first leg.

Musundire, Zimbabwe's 2015 Referee of the Year will be at center for his second international assignment after officiating in the CAF Champions League match between Zanaco of Zambia and APR of Rwanda in February this year.

He will be assisted by Salani Ncube, Thomas Kusosa and Philani Ncube. The quartet flew out of the country for the assignment on Thursday.

Musundire is one of the three referees on the FIFA panel together with Norman Matemera and Ncube.

Another quintet of ladies referees Kuda Majo, Stella Ruvinga, Faith Mloyi and Thanks Nyahuye will be handling a FIFA under 20 Women World Cup qualifiers between Botswana and Kenya in Gaborone over the weekend.

ZIFA Referees Committee vice-chairman Gladmore Muzambi said they were thrilled by the appointments and hope all referees on national duty will raise the country’s flag high.

“We are happy when our referees get such international assignments. He (Musundire) spent most of his term first year of the FIFA referees panel as a forth official and we are delighted with his appointment. He will be the center referee for the second time this year on international assignment. We are pining hopes on him and believe he will raise our flag high. His good calls at international level will give him more opportunities in the future. It will also allow other Zimbabwean referees to be given a chance. At CAF, they usually look at the performances of our referees and developmental courses they do,” he said.

“Four ladies are in Botswana and they will be in action in the Women Word Cup qualifiers between Botswana and Kenya. That’s a great stride for us as we seek to have more representations at the international stage.”

Rusape-based referee, Brighton Chimene is in Mauritius officiating at 2017 COSAFA Under-17 Championships.

The 2017 COSAFA Under-17 Championships get under way today.

“We are also counting on Chimene who is representing us at the COSAFA tournament in Mauritius. He is not on the FIFA panel but his appointment thrill us. We are happy with the recognition and we wish him the best at the tournament,” added Muzambi.
