Thibaut Courtois Denies Madrid Link

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has denied he is in contact with Real Madrid and said he is very happy at Stamford Bridge.

Courtois has been linked with Real for some time and Don Balon has claimed the 24-year-old is on the European champions' radar and is eager to return to the Spanish capital after a previous spell with Atletico Madrid.

Courtois, who is on international duty with Belgium, told Cadena Cope: "I never had anything with Real Madrid. I did not see anything published, but I never had any contact with Real Madrid.

"I am happy at Chelsea. Everything is going very well -- it is a great club. There is no reason not to be happy at Chelsea. You never know what will happen in the future, but at the moment I am very well, in a very good atmosphere."

Courtois spent three successful seasons on loan at Atletico from Chelsea between 2011 and 2014, winning the Europa League and the Primera Division title. He was also the starting keeper for the Atletico side that finished runners-up finish to Real in the 2013-14 Champions League.

Atletico boss Diego Simeone had fought to make Courtois' move permanent in 2014 but eventually brought in Slovenia keeper Jan Oblak, who signed a new five-year contract in February after an impressive start to his time at the Vicente Calderon.

Courtois said: "There was never any talk about a possible return to Atletico. Oblak is doing very well and I am happy about that. These are rumours that come out from people who do not know anything."

Courtois' partner is Spanish and he told Marca in the summer that he considers himself "half-Spanish" and would like to return to the country eventually, although he subsequently said he was not necessarily suggesting it would be during his playing career.

In a separate interview with Onda Cero, he added: "Perhaps one day I can return -- who knows? But right now I'm very happy at Chelsea.

"I wish Atleti the best. I miss Madrid, I left many friends there, but I knew my future was in England."

Courtois, who joined Chelsea from Belgian side Genk in 2011, is under contract with the Premier League side until June 2019.

He said he has become a better player since returning to Stamford Bridge and believes he is improving on his ball distribution with his feet, which has been his main weakness.

"Since I left Atleti, I have improved my game with my feet considerably and I have matured a lot as a person," he said. "Right now I've gone five games without conceding a goal in the Premier League and I'm delighted."

Courtois has kept six clean sheets in 11 league starts for Antonio Conte's side, who have enjoyed a significant upturn in form since adopting a 3-4-3 formation.

Chelsea have gone into the international break having won their last five league games, including Saturday's 5-0 thumping of Everton, and are second in the table, one point adrift of league leaders Liverpool after 11 matches.

"The team is doing well right now," Courtois said. "I want to win the title with Chelsea."

Courtois is expected to start when Belgium host Estonia in Sunday's 2018 World Cup qualifier.
