The HPC Did Not Fire Pasuwa - Omega
ZIFA vice president and chairman of the High Performance Committee Omega Sibanda maintains that he has no personal vendetta against Warriors coach Kalisto Pasuwa.
The HPC recommended that Pasuwa’s contract be terminated following the Warriors’ poor show at the just ended Africa Cup of Nations finals from which Zimbabwe brought a point in three group matches.
Speculation on Sibanda’s personal relationship with Pasuwa has been rife with some accusing the ZIFA vice president of masterminding the fall of the record breaking gaffer.
Some sections of the football fraternity believe Pasuwa crossed the path of Sibanda , who allegedly has interests in player management, after he snubbed a number of players believed to be in Sibanda’s camp in the Afcon qualifiers.
At one time last year, ZIFA fired Pasuwa in the absence of president Philip Chiyangwa and immediately installed a new technical team led by Joey Antipas.
Sibanda was fingered as the mastermind of that decision, an allegation he strongly denied.
However, the decision was reversed after incessant public pressure.
But now, Pasuwa is finally on his way out after ZIFA wrote him a letter advising that they will terminate his contract on February 28 following recommendations from the Sibanda led HPC.
And Sibanda maintains that the HPC was not targeting individuals saying that Pasuwa had naturally come under the spotlight because he was in charge of the nation’s flagship football team.
“People are making a mistake that we were looking at Pasuwa and the Warriors, but that is not the case. We looked at football in general.
“Pasuwa was just part of the bigger element that was being reviewed. It is the duty of the HPC to review the performance of all our national teams.
“It is also important to note that the HPC will never fire or hire a coach. We just make recommendations,” Sibanda told The Herald.
