Tendai Ndoro Misses Penalty, Coach Quits
TENDAI NDORO’S coach Muhsin Ertugral quit Orlando Pirates Wednesday afternoon, barely 24 hours after The Buccaneers were thrashed 6-1 by Onisimo Bhasera’s SuperSport United in a game the Warriors striker scored one before missing a penalty.
According to Kick Off, Orlando Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza confirmed Ertugral’s resignation just before lunchtime.
Khoza announced at a press conference on Wednesday that he has accepted Ertugral's decision to quit Mayfair.
Ertugral indicated he would step down live on television after Bucs' 6-1 humiliation at Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday night.
“I have no thoughts – I’m ashamed of the situation for this great club, I have no words. I have never seen such a disastrous 45 minutes like that, we completely blacked out.
“I don’t think in Pirates’ history they have ever lost by such a margin. I can only speak to the chairman tomorrow and put my resignation [forward],” said a distraught Ertugral.
Warriors striker Ndoro, the ABSA Premiership top goal scorer with seven goals in as many matches, scored Pirates’ only goal on the fateful night when he bundled the ball home after 28 minutes of play.
However, the game turned on its head as SuperSport United scored six times in the second half to complete a historical victory over their more illustrious opponents.
Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Clayton Daniels, Maxwell Boxall, Thuso Phala, Bradley Grobbler and Jerome Brockie were on target for Stuart Baxter’s men.
Ndoro had a chance to reduce the deficit through the spot kick in the 90th minute but his weak shot was saved by Ronwen Williams.
Ertugral leaves Orlando Pirates seventh on the log and six points behind log leaders Bidvest Wits while Supersport United moved to second after Tuesday night’s victory.
Willard Katsande’s Kaizer Chiefs, who host new boys Baroka FC on Wednesday night, are third on 14 points.
