Teenage Impress On His Kaizer Chiefs’ Debut

Former Highlanders and Chicken Inn defender Teenage Hadebe charmed Kaizer Chiefs Coach, Steve Kompela when he finally made his league debut for the Absa Premiership giants in a nil-all draw against AmaZulu at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday night.

Hadebe who made his long-awaited debut for the Chiefs after recovering from an ankle injury never put a foot wrong for the entire 90 minutes. In fact, the former Chicken Inn man was Chiefs’ hero after clearing a goal-bound effort from the line deep into the first half added time preventing AmaZulu going into the breather leading.

Speaking to KickOff, Komphela said Hadebe passed his first test in the colours of the club after relegating Bafana Bafana defender Eric ‘Tower’ Mathoho to the bench.

“Hadebe is good, Tower is good, Ngezana is good. The only difference between Tower and Hadebe is that Hadebe uses the left foot, which I think he passed the test quite well.

“He had a good match in my opinion, dealt with a lot of threats, he could play comfortably with the left foot,” added Komphela.

Amazulu featured two Zimbabweans in that game, former Tsholotsho midfielder Butholezwe Ncube, who also played the entire match, and Ovidy Karuru who was a second half substitute for Jabulani Ncobeni.

Chiefs host Free State Stars at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday and Hadebe will be hoping to keep his place in the team.
