Sydney Linyama Is Back

TRUANT Dynamos defender Sydney Linyama is back at training after weeks away without official leave and is fighting for a starting place in DeMbare’s next league match against Hwange at Rufaro on Sunday.

The gangly centre back returned end of last week and has been attending Dynamos’ training sessions consistently this week.

Dynamos team manager Richard “Nyoka” Chihoro confirmed the development and said Linyama, like any other player, was in contention for a place is Sunday’s squad.

“He (Linyama) came back last week Thursday and since then he has been coming for training. Like any other player, Linyama is fighting for a jersey,” Chihoro said after Dynamos’ Thursday training session.

The Mbare based Linyama has a worrying trend of going AWOL when his services are needed most and in this latest spell, he disappeared in August.

Warriors coach Kalisto Pasuwa, the gaffer who brought Linyama to Dynamos from Chicken Inn, complained about the defender’s behavior way back in 2004.

Linyama’s absence worsened DeMbare’s plight at centre back given that another trusted centre back Elisha Muroiwa was injured and only resumed full training a couple of days ago.

DeMbare coach Lloyd Mutasa has had to shift right back Obey Mwerahari to centre back where he has been partnering former Highlanders player Marshall Machazane.

Dynamos are virtually out of the race for the championship and Chihoro revealed that a top four finish was now the target.

The former champions are tied on 38 points with ZPC Kariba after 25 rounds of action.
