Highlands Primary School, basking in the glory of being the inaugural winners of the 2016 Dairibord Rugby Festival primary schools' category, will get a chance to confirm their dominance when they headline the forthcoming Super Eight Rugby Festival in June.

The tournament is pencilled for St John's Preparatory School on June 11 and on the roll-call will be the elite rugby-playing private schools in Harare in which Highlands, though government-run, feature due to their pristine location in the wealthy north-eastern Harare neighbourhood.

It will also be the selection stage for the Harare Under-13 provincial rugby squad and among Highlands' opponents will be such schools as Gateway, Hellenic, Eaglesvale, Heritage, Alexandra Park, Hartmann House plus the hosts.

The red-shirted Highlands are the only outfit who undertook solid preparations in the pre-season with their participation at the Dairibord Rugby Festival organised by Prince Edward High School between April

24-30 this year and it should not be a surprise to see them come out tops again.

Briefing reporters at the PE festival, Highlands coach Passion Kamwemba said they had taken the competition seriously and spent two and a half weeks in camp to improve fitness.

It showed as Highlands proved too good for their adversaries who included Lewisam, Borrowdale, Blackiston, Lendy Park, Chipindura, Avondale, ZRP Braeside, and Selborne Routledge.

Kamwenda knows however that the task is more demanding at this stage as they will come up against battle-hardened schools who have always made rugby their traditional game. Home advantage is also likely to weigh heavily in St John's Preparatory favour.

The Zimbabwe Rugby Union Schools' Development Committee was still to announce the names of the Under-13 coaches for this year although Tan Dinhidza and Gordon Pangeti, the national Under-14 team handlers, will be among the selection panel.
