Sponsor-Less Caps United Court UK Based Legends

CAPS United president Farai Jere is in the United Kingdom where he is meeting the club’s legends who have expressed an interest in investing in the team’s academy.

Despite winning the league title after 11 years of waiting and earning a chance to represent Zimbabwe in the CAF Champions League, Caps United are yet to find a corporate sponsor – just a few days before they travel to Lesotho for the preliminary round first leg fixture against FC Lioli.

Once renowned for harnessing and nurturing junior talent back in the 1980s and 1990s, the financially crippled Caps United’s junior policy has since faded but Jere wants to revive the once vibrant system.

According to The Herald, club legends based in the UK have expressed satisfaction with the way Jere has turned the club around and promised to invest in an academy.

“It was a very fruitful meeting and the guys here are happy with what we are doing and they want to play a big part in the success of their team and we will continue with the engagement,” said Jere.

Legendary former skipper Joe “Kode” Mugabe who is the chairman for the Caps United Legends UK, Frank “The Dealer” Nyamukuta, Raymond Undi, Liberty Masunda, Artwell Mabhiza, Tichaona Nyenda and Brian Badza are some of the members of the group.

The legends held a fundraising dinner last December as part of efforts to pull resources together for their former club.

Jere is expected back in Zimbabwe on Wednesday ahead of the team’s trip to Lesotho where they play FC Lioli in a CAF Champions League preliminary round first leg fixture on Saturday.
