Shabanie Wins Central Soccer League Championship

Shabanie Mine won the Central Soccer League title on Saturday with a game to spare after beating rivals FC Platinum U19 1-0 at Maglas stadium.

Lloyd Gwerina scored the all important goal seven minutes from fulltime to give Shabanie an unassailable four point going into the last match of the season.

The win could have propelled the Chinda Boys back into the premiership should Zifa stick to the resolution by councillors to do away with play offs and promote four teams.

An ecstatic Shabanie coach Tendai Chikuni paid tribute to the players for showing determination to win the championship.

"I want to thank the players for showing determination to win despite the challenges we faced. At times we could go into matches after having pfuko maheu the whole day. The players made a lot of sacrifices," said Chikuni.

"I also want to thank the supporters for taking money meant for their families to aide the teams after seeing how we were struggling. It was difficult coaching a team without a single cent but determination saw us through because we knew that if we hadn't won this year, Shabanie were going to collapse."

Shabanie Mine becomes the second team after Black Rhinos to win the regional first division league.
