Saints Midfielder Joins Danish Team, PE Star Off To US
St George’s College attacking mid-fielder Giles Happi, is bound for Holbro FC in Denmark at the end of this year having signed a season-long contract last month while Prince Edward’s Musa Kalombe has already attained a football scholarship to study and play in the US collegiate league.
The Zimbabwe Under-17 central midfielder is expected to duck his Advanced Level examinations that were due for November, as his American adventure is set to begin in August.
Both Kalombe and Happi will clash for the last time in school colours when Prince Edward take on St George's at their main football ground, Hospital Field, in a Reunion Day fixture next Saturday.
Bhekimpilo Nyoni an experienced juniors' soccer coach close to the two players told Suburban both deals were already done and dusted.
"Giles move was facilitated by Zimbabwean star Quincy Antipas who turns out for Holbro and is home for the off-season. Giles was offered a 12-month renewable contract,'' said Nyoni, who groomed Happi and Kalombe at his BN Soccer Academy holiday coaching programme.
"Musa earned his schoarship through his former senior at BN Academy who is now coaching at the university in the US. He sat for the entrance exam and passed so he will join their university team in August,'' he confirmed.
Giles' father Thomas Happi, who is a Cameroonian, is happy with the turn of events and quipped that he was not sure which nationality his son would choose in his professional career.
"Giles holds a Cameroonian passport like me but he was born in Harare at the Avenues Clinic in 1999. He has told me he has yet to make up his mind whether to identify himself as a Warrior or an Indomitable Lion in Denmark,'' said Happi Snr.
Kalombe will not suffer any identity crisis in his career after being capped in the Young Warriors team at the African Union Sports Council Region Five games in Bulawayo in 2014.
