Sables Slump To Worst Ranking
Zimbabwe have fallen to their worst World Rugby ranking in six years following a degrading 27-34 loss at the hands of Uganda in the Africa Cup at the Police Grounds over the weekend.
According to the latest world rankings, the Sables are now the 33rd best team in the world and were also the heaviest droppers, losing 1.9 points from 51.89 points as they sipped three places.
Exactly a year ago the Sables were ranked as the 27th best rugby playing nation in the world but six consecutive defeats since they beat Tunisia at home have seen the Cyprian “Supa” Mandenge coached side take a nosedive.
On the contrary, Uganda are enjoying a rankings boost as Saturday’s surprise win over Zimbabwe has resulted in an eight-place rise for Uganda as the Rugby Cranes are now ranked 42nd in the world after picking up 1.91 rating points.
The Sables next take on Namibia on the weekend of August 6 in Windhoek, and would need to pull a shocker of they are to stand a chance of remaining in the group – something that is near impossible for Zimbabwe.
