Sables Prepare For Zambia
ZIMBABWE senior XV’s rugby coach Cyprian ‘Supa’ Mandenge says they will try to make the best out of their home friendly match against Zambia at the Police Grounds this Saturday.
The Sables trooped into their final camp with an evening training session yesterday but it’s most likely that the squad to host Zambia will be fraught with locally based players and a few foreign based players whom the coach wants to assess.
“We are trying to train every day this week. We want to put up a strong squad and see all the players,” Mandenge told Sportszone.co.zw.
The friendly against Zambia will give the Sables the much needed practice for the upcoming Africa Cup 1A tournament which kicks off next month. For Mandenge, this Zambia tie wouldn’t have come at a better time.
“I am taking it seriously because its games that we don’t usually get. Ideally I would have loved to try out all the players.
“I would want to see some of these players for the Africa Cup. Unfortunately we can’t have all the players because this is a friendly match,” he said.
Last week, the Sables missed out another opportunity of having game time as the senior side didn’t travel to Botswana. Instead, an A-side travelled to Botswana alongside the Lady Sables.
Zimbabwe A edged Botswana 20-19 while the Lady Sables lost 10-17.
However, the Sables, the A-side and the Lady Sables will all be in action this Saturday as Zambia will tour Zimbabwe with their three sides respectively.
