Sables Fall In Hong Kong
ZIMBABWE’S nightmarish run at this year’s Hong Kong Cup of Nations continued, after the Sables went down 34-11 to the host at Kings’ Park Sports ground, Hong Kong.
Zimbabwe got their scores from the boot of Lenience Tambwera, who scored two penalties and a charged down try from Bradley Ellse.
Much like during the Russia game, the hosts rushed to a 17-3 lead courtesy of tries from Alex Ng and Alex McQueen.
Flyhalf Ben Remene chipped in with two conversions and a penalty.
Zimbabwe’s solitary points, from the half, came courtesy of a 30-minute penalty from Tambwera.
With the scores at 17-3, Hong Kong came back from the breather and made sure of the points courtesy of unanswered tries from Thomas Lamboley and McQueen’s second of the game.
Remene would add on a penalty and a conversion, to finish the game with 12 points.
At this point; Tambwera’s second penalty was but a mere formality as the game was out of reach for the visitors.
Hong Kong’s win means that their clash against Russia on Saturday will be for the trophy, after the Europeans also cruised to a comfortable 49-19 win over Papua New Guinea.
Zimbabwe wraps up their participation at this year’s competition with a bottom of the table clash against Papua New Guinea on Saturday.
That match kicks off at 11am, Zimbabwe time, and will act as curtain raiser for the Hong Kong and Russia clash.
