Sables Coach Wants More Preparation Time

SABLES coach Cyprian “Supa” Mandenge would have loved Zimbabwe’s senior men’s XV rugby team camp to continue in preparation for their next Rugby Africa Gold Cup assignment away in Namibia.

The Sables, who returned home last Monday from their 28-16 victory over Senegal, broke camp and will only regroup on July 5 – just 10 days before the crunch encounter against traditional rivals Namibia.

“It’s not much time to camp but most of our players go to work so they have to go back to their bases. Ideally we didn’t want to break camp,” Mandenge told SportsZone.

In Senegal, Zimbabwe had to comeback from a 13-6 deficit to claim the game that turned out to be one of two halves.

But Mandenge learnt of areas they need to rectify and those that need reinforcement for the better ahead of the Namibia game.

“We have to work on the negatives from the Senegal game. We saw where we have strength so we just need to fix those negatives.”

Although much attention seems to be on the Namibia games, Mandenge stressed out the need to take all games seriously in a bid to qualify for the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

“Every game is very important especially with the way it is. Whoever finishes bottom will be relegated and won’t have the chance for the World Cup,” he said.
