Rugby Fiesta At St John's Borrowdale
Rolf Valley is the place to be this weekend for all youth sports enthusiasts as both St John's College preparatory and high schools stage a rugby fiesta likely to remain on spectators minds for quite some time.
First up is the Harare Under-13 provincial rugby trials taking place at the elite boys' primary school that has attracted eight of the best teams playing the sport at colts level.
Adjacent to the site will be the senior school's grudge encounter against Prince Edward which will be divided in four series, the Under-14, Under-16 and then the first and second teams.
All action is scheduled for Saturday beginning shortly after sunrise and running well into sunset.
It will be St John's first tie against PE this year with both schools already hogging the limelight after contributing a total of 30 players among them for the Mashonaland provincial squad selected late last month.
Their reserve sides that will curtain raise the main clash at 4pm are also packed with enough talent that could easily fit into any other top team in the capital, not including of course fellow top sides like St George's, Churchill and Marlborough.
The age group fixtures are happening before the lunch hour, spoiling fanatics for choice as both the school parks will be dripping with entertainment.
The primary schools event features established private schools in the capital such as Gateway, Hellenic, Eaglesvale, Heritage, Hartmann House plus the hosts and also accommodates Alex Park and weekly boarding school Highlands.
A spokesman for the Zimbabwe Rugby Union confirmed selectors will be on the scene at St John's Preparatory School to pick players for the Harare Under-13 rugby squad.
