Records Inspire Warriors

Warriors star midfielder Ovidy Karuru, who is having a dream tournament in his maiden Cosafa Castle Cup appearance, said the thought of the records stake had been motivating the players as they prepare for Sunday’s final against Zambia.

Karuru has broken the record of most goals scored in a single tournament having found the back of the net six times, surpassing the five goals that were scored by the 2016 Golden Boot winner in Namibia last year.

Former Warriors captain Peter Ndlovu has the tournament’s all-time record of eight goals, which were however spread over different editions of the competition.

Coach Sunday Chidzambwa is chasing a hat-trick of titles having won the Cosafa Cup in 2003 and 2009.

“Everyone knows what is at stake. There is only one final, there is no home and away, it is a record-breaking final and especially for the coach as it will be the third time he is winning it,” said Karuru.

Both Zimbabwe and Zambia have four titles each.

“It feels great to be part of this group that is set to break the record and it will be a game to remember if we win this Cup,” said Karuru.

The game kicks off at 3PM.
