Record Breaking Chidzambwa Shifts Focus To CHAN

Warriors’ team manager Wellington Mpandare believes the national team will be fresh enough for the CHAN qualifier against Namibia which comes a week after Zimbabwe clinched the COSAFA Castle Cup.

Zimbabwe play Namibia on Sunday in Windhoek with the second leg set for Harare the following weekend.

Warriors coach Sunday Chidzambwa retained some of the players who took part in the COSAFA Castle Cup in South Africa.

Skipper Ocean Mushure, Raphael Manuvire, Liberty Chakoroma, Prince Dube, Gerald Takwara and keeper Takabva Mawaya are some of the players retained.

Eleven of the 18 players called in for camp checked in on Wednesday afternoon and the rest are expected to be part of Thursday morning training session at Walter Magaya’s Yadah Complex.

“I am sure they (players) have had enough rest since the COSAFA Cup. Those who were at the tournament played their last match on Sunday and the next game will be the CHAN qualifier exactly a week later,” said Mpandare.

The Warriors have never failed to qualify for the CHAN tournament since its inauguration in 2009.
