PSL Worried With Increased Hooliganism
THE Premier Soccer League will have to wait a little longer before they determine the outcome of FC Platinum and Highlanders hooliganism case that took place last Sunday.
The match between the two sides was marred by violent scenes with some video footage on social media showing FC Platinum bouncers blocking Highlanders team bus from entering the stadium.
FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza was also on the receiving end after he was stoned on the shoulder.
PSL in a statement condemned violence at all cost and said there is no room for that in local sports.
“The Premier Soccer League condemns violence and hooliganism that took place at Mandava on Sunday.
“There is no place for violence and hooliganism in the game of football and the PSL will not condone such unacceptable behavior.
“Perpetrators of violence should be brought to book so that justice prevails and violence eradicated from our football.
“We urge Zimbabwe Republic Police to ensure that those who have transgressed face the consequences of their actions.
“We further urge clubs to educate the fans and denounce violence in football,” they stated.
PSL said they are worried with cases of violence and hooliganism especially this season where Highlanders has accumulated $17 625 in fines.
“It is worrying that cases of violence and hooliganism have been on the increase this season regardless of fines which are meant to curb the problem of violence.
“Violence and hooliganism continue to plague our football and it appears the fines are not deterrent enough so we will work towards tightening our rules and regulations ahead of next season,” PSL added.
