Premier Soccer League "Hawk" Resigns
Chicken Inn Football Club chairman Lifa Ncube, who is allegedly at the centre of the controversy surrounding the dragging tiff between the Premier Soccer League and the Zimbabwe Football Association over the relegation promotion issue, has resigned from his post.
Ncube, who led the Gamecocks to their maiden league title in 2015, announced his resignation on his Face book page Friday morning.
He will officially step down on January 31.
The burly administrator has been caught between a protracted power battle between the top flight league and the mother body.
Ncube and Triangle chairman Lovemore Matikinyidze are allegedly pushing for the league to keep its battle with Zifa whose Congress ruled last weekend that four teams should be promoted into the top flight with two dropping down.
While influential clubs like Dynamos, Highlanders, Caps United and FC Platinum appear to have softened their stance, it has been reported that the duo of Ncube and Matikinyidze are adamant on defying the Zifa Congress ruling.
They are pushing for two clubs in and two out.
While Dynamos president Keni Mubaiwa, who is also leader of the PSL emergency committee, has publicly called for a truce between the PSL and Zifa, the Herald reported Friday that Ncube and Matikinyidze have been pushing for the league to keep alive its appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
In the Face book post, Ncube cites other commitments as the main reason why he is quitting his post.
“It is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you of my decision to resign from being the chairman of Chicken Inn Football Club with effect from the 31st of January 2017.
Other commitments have arisen that hinder me from committing myself fully to this post. I feel it is imperative for me to step down for someone with more time and energy to devote to the position,” wrote Ncube.
Some sources claim that Ncube’s involvement in the ugly fallout between PSL and Zifa was beginning to taint his corporate image.
He holds an influential position with Simbisa Brands Limited, the holding company of fast food outlet Chicken Inn.
“I take this opportunity to thank my fellow executive committee members, coaches and players, fans and the directors of Simbisa Brands Limited, for the co-operation extended to me during my twelve years as the Gamecocks chairman.
I take this opportunity to wish Chicken Inn Football Club every success in its future endeavours,” said Ncube.
He is currently in Mauritius on a business trip.
