Philip Chiyangwa: I am the god of football in Zimbabwe

National Football Association of Zimbabwe (NFAZ) president Philip Chiyangwa says he is the god of Zimbabwean football.

Chiyangwa was speaking on the sidelines of the dinner he organised for the Warriors following their qualification for the 2017 AFCON in Gabon. The NFAZ president handed bans ranging from 10 years to life to a former national team assistant coach and two former association officials for attempting to fix games.  Former Assistant coach Nation Dube was banned for five years, Ian Gorowa and former executive committe member Edzai Kasinauyo were each banned ten years.

Henrietta Rushwaya, once the ZIFA chief executive, received a life ban for the second time for involvement in the attempted fixing. Rushwaya was banned for life after a previous match-fixing scandal, but that sanction was overturned.

The latest bans have not been ratified by Fifa but NFAZ President Philip Chiyangwa said, “FIFA listens to me, I am the God of football in Zimbabwe, what I say goes they listen to me”.
