Pfumbidzai Doubtful For Mazembe Tie
CAPS United star leftback Ronald Pfumbidzai is a major doubt for Sunday’s CAF Champions League first round first leg tie against five time African champions TP Mazembe away in DRC.
The on and off Warriors wingback is struggling to shake off a knee injury he sustained when the Green Machine dismissed Lesotho’s Lioli in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
Reports this week had suggested that the roving wingback had made a successful recovery in time for the Mazembe clash but coach Lloyd Chitembwe today said he is still limping and his chances of facing the DRC giants were slim.
“The fitness levels (of the team in general) are very good maybe serve for Ronald (Pfumbidzai) who is limping,” Chitembwe told a news conference this afternoon.
“I am not hundred percent sure but chances are he might not participate on Sunday but for the rest of the guys we are very happy,” he said.
Meanwhile reigning Castle Soccer Star of the Year Hardlife Zvirekwi said his colleagues are pumped up for the Sunday clash and are not bothered by the travel schedule which will see them flying directly to Lubumbashi on match day and flying back home on match day.
“The guys are highly pumped up, obviously the motivating factor is we are meeting big guys and it gives us the drive and want to be at our best,” he said.
“Obviously if you go (before match day) you need time to adjust but if it’s in and out (on match day) its ok there is no need to acclimatise for you to play so I think it’s a good thing,” he said.
