Penalty Agony For Warriors As they Fail To Qualify For CHAN Finals

Zimbabwe crashed out of the CHAN 2018 qualifiers after losing 5-4 on penalties to Namibia.

The first leg between the two nations ended 1-0 in favour of Namibia at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek last weekend thanks to a goal from Hendrik Somaeb.

Prince Dube had set nervy finish to the two legged tie with a 40 minute goal for the Warriors, leaving the aggregate score at 1-1.

This resulted in the two nations going into a penalty shoot-out to decide who would progress to the next stage of qualifiers – Devon Chafa, Milton Ncube, Praise Tonha, Dennis Dauda all converted their spot kick but Black Rhinos keeper Herbert Rusawo had his saved as Namibia showed nerves of steel converting all five of their penalties to win 5-4.

Namibia will now face Comoros in the final phase of qualification to reach CHAN 2018 in Kenya.

Comoros progressed to the final round of CHAN qualifying following a 2-1 aggregate win over Lesotho on Sunday.

This is the first time the Warriors have failed to progress to the finals of the CHAN tournament.
