Pasuwa Set To Join Top Malawi Side

FORMER Warriors coach Kallisto Pasuwa could be coaching in the CAF Champions League next year if a deal materialises with Malawi champions Be Forward Wanderers.

Reports say that the newly crowned TNM Super League champions Wanderers are seeking to engage Pasuwa who is currently on a break from football.

The former Dynamos gaffer has however professed ignorance of the impending deal while his manager Gibson Mahachi is coy.

“I don’t know anything about the Wanderers job. I am still resting and I am at home,” Pasuwa said.

Be Forward Wanderers are sponsored by Japanese car dealers Be Forward and will make a return to the Champions League after a 17-year absence in February with a preliminary fixture against AS Vita of Congo.

Should Pasuwa get the job he will return to the dugout exactly a year after leaving the Zimbabwe national team job following the Warriors’ early exit from the 2017 AFCON finals.

Pasuwa’s manager Mahachi had this to say about the developments.

“Remember the network with Malawi has always been there, but at the moment nothing official has been said about Pasuwa.”

Pasuwa is a record breaking gaffer who etched his name in the history books after guiding Dynamos to four straight league titles between 2011 and 2014.

He also guided Zimbabwe to their third appearance at the AFCON finals early this year.

The last time Zimbabwe had qualified for the biennial was in 2006 under Charles Mhlauri, a former Caps United coach who is now based in the United States.

Sources in Malawi confirm that Pasuwa is a favourite to land the Wanderers job having also played for the side in the early 2000s.

Wanderers chairperson Gift Mkandawire could neither confirm nor deny the reports and admitted that Pasuwa was a popular choice.

“So many people are coming up with ideas because there are so many people who are wishing us well. So many people are giving us advice and true, they are mentioning Pasuwa,” said Mkandawire.
