Nyikadzino Taunts Border Strikers
Chapungu coach taunted Border strikers after a comfortable 3-0 at Ascot stadium on Saturday.
In the buildup to the match, Border Strikers buoyed by their home victories over Dynamos and Ngezi Platinum had declared that they were going to Ascot stadium for another shocker.
“Before the mach they were saying they were coming here to shock us and they indeed shocked us by losing 3-0. We are Chapungu and we don’t get intimidated easily. It’s one game that we needed to win and we won it. Credit should go to the players and the fans,” said Nyikadzino.
The first half was lukewarm with few scoring opportunities but the match livened up in the second half as Chapungu upped the tempo but Border Strikers defence of Ephraim Mwinga and Mike Variso was resolute.
With pressure creeping in Chapungu players swarmed referee Thomas Masaa appealing for a penalty in the 55th minute when Variso was hit the face by the ball but Masaa who had a good afternoon in the middle turned down the appeal.
However it was not long before the Airmen went ahead through an Aleck Marime header off a Jameson Mukombwe cross on the half hour mark.
Veteran striker Philip Marufu doubled the lead in the 81st minute heading in a corner kick from Hillary Mugoniwa before Marime capped up a fine afternoon with a low shot from close range.
Border Strikers coach Never Malunga was disappointed with the defeat.
“It’s a disappointing result because we had contained them for the better part of the game. We just lost concentration and the first goal changed the complexion of the match. Otherwise it was a good match for us, because it’s one of those away matches where you can’t complain about bad officiating as it was fair to both teams,” said Malunga.
