Nyamupangedengu Earns Harare City A Point
Hwange dented Harare City's mini renaissance under new coach Philani ' Beefy' Ncube with a 1-1 draw at Morris Depot on Sunday.
Hwange threatened to spoil the day for the Sunshine Boys with a dominant display in the first half in which they deservedly took the lead two minutes before the break through exciting winger Shepard Gadzikwa who headed in cross from Admire Banda.
City however began to have inroads into Hwange defence after the introduction of Tatenda Tumba in the second half with the pint sized player adding more width in attack.
The hosts were given a lifeline in the 72nd minute when Oscar Lungu was adjudged by the referee to have handled a rebound from Farai Madhanhanga's header which had cannoned off the crossbar. There was a nine minute stoppage as Hwange protested the referee's decision. After calm was restored, Maxwell Nyamupanedengu send Taimon Mvula the wrong way.
The protests by Hwange helped to kill off the momentum by City and after the goal, they didn't attack with the same verve they did before the stoppage.
Chipangano were now more clinical in their defending in the dying stages and managed to hold on for a point.
Their coach Nation Dube cried foul after the match claiming that the referee aided City to salvage a point.
“Only the referee knows why he awarded that penalty. We also played this match under protest because this fixture was supposed to have been played on Saturday but now they play it on a Sunday when all the attention is away at the National Sports stadium where Caps United are playing Zamalek in the African champions league. We feel whatever decision the referee made, is not going to be scrutinized," said Dube.
In the other matches played on Sunday, Shabanie Mine edged How Mine 1-0 courtesy of a Dylan Chivandire strike while Ralph Matema scored the only goal as Highlanders registered a 1-0 victory over Yadah.
