Ntouba’s Controversial Goals

DYNAMOS striker Christian Ntouba Epoupa’s has been unlucky with his goals outcome but coach Lloyd Mutasa has backed the Cameroonian to be a hit.

On three occasions Ntouba has been there but with every such DeMbare goal comes another angle of controversy.

His latest was a controversial one against Highlanders in a match waiting for determination from PSL.

Ntouba’s first was when he had a slight touch on Ocean Mushure’s cross in the Independence Trophy semi-final against CAPS United. Mushure was officially given the goal.

Then there was confusion as to who had scored the goal away to Hwange in a 1-0 league win and it later emerged that Emmanuel Mandiranga was scorer though Ntouba’s name was also in the mix.

DeMbare coach Mutasa however says he is happy with Ntouba’s involvement in such cases.

“It then shows he is a player capable of getting into goal scoring positions and creating goals for his teammates.

“Yes, there was that Ocean scenario and then the case in Hwange was clear, it was Manu (Emmanuel) who scored the goal. And then against Highlanders he was there at the right time and got the goal,” Mutasa told Sportszone.co.zw.

“We were looking for a striker that can handle the pressure in matches such as these. Not necessarily a 30-goal striker but a striker that can impose himself well playing against good defenders like Muduwa and be able to give us a result.

“He has been doing exactly that, getting involved in play and creating goals for his teammates. That way we will be able to get the results,” said the DeMbare coach.

Fears were that Ntouba would fail to settle at Dynamos, struggling with the new environment and language barrier.

“He is learning fast. And you have to see it for yourself how he has been able to adapt to the institution and getting used to his teammates and environment.

“Yes, he struggles with English but he can communicate and the football language is the same. Whenever he does not understand certain things, he asks and we demonstrate what we mean.

“Now he can speak a bit of Shona and he is now one of the players that joke a lot. He attracts the attention of almost all the players and because of his zeal to try and learn new things. We are happy with his progress in adapting to the new environment,” Mutasa said.
