Norman Mapeza: Football Becoming Difficult In The World

FC Platinum Coach Norman Mapeza says football has developed the world over and there are no underdogs to talk about whenever teams meet. The Pure Platinum Play coach was speaking ahead of Wednesday’s clash against Chicken Inn at Barbourfields Stadium.

FC Platinum strikers have not been finding the back of the net with many of their goals this season coming from defenders and midfielders. The Zvishavane based side won 2-1 on Sunday away to Mutare City with goals from defender Elvis Moyo and midfielder Rodwell Chinyengetere.

“No one is scoring goals. Look at the Euros what is happening there. Lewandowski (Robert) played 5 games and scored one goal. No one is scoring its difficult.

Lewandowski plays for Bayern Munich in Germany and captains the Polish national team.

“Football is becoming difficult. The top goal scorer at the moment in Zimbabwe, Is he a striker? No! Its not getting easy anymore, l can’t complain for the goals we have been scoring. Its getting difficult so if I win 1-0 or 2-0 I will be satisfied and I will not complain,”said Mapeza.

Mapeza who is a former Warriors coach will meet another former national team mentor Rahman Gumbo, in a game that has all the ingredients of a thriller. The two who view each as brothers also played together in the national team, but on Wednesday for 90 minutes, the brothers will be “fighting” each other.

Gumbo once coached platinum in 2011 in one of their best season when they lost the championship to Dynamos on the last day on goal aggregate.

A win for the Platinum miners will take them to the summit of the log as they are currently tied on 26 points with leaders Highlanders. If they draw FC Platinum will still pip Highlanders  to the top with a point. Victory for Chicken Inn will take them to 20 points and fifth position above Dynamos as they have a better goal difference.

Mapeza said the Platinum miners have a tight schedule starting with the Chicken Inn game. They will travel back to Mandava were they will host Caps United before making another trip to Hwange for a midweek fixture. They will return to Zvishavane to host Bulawayo City before the league takes a two week break.

“It’s a tight fixture for us, what can we do? We have to travel. We will go to Bulawayo come back here (Zvishavane) then travel to Hwange. We are not mourning but it is the fixture.

“We are not worried about the results for the other teams. We are not worried about other teams but we are worried about us (platinum). We will not focus on what is happening in Hwange or Bulawayo but our focus is on us and our next games,” said Mapeza.
