Norman Mapeza Breaks 50-Year-Old Record

NORMAN MAPEZA broke a 50-year-old record when he guided FC Platinum to the 2017 Castle Lager PSL title, in the process becoming the first side from outside Harare and Bulawayo to win the championship since St Pauls Musami’s feat in 1966.

Two quick goals inside 10 minutes from Rodwell Chinyengetere and Ali Sadiki were enough to see Pure Platinum Play cruising to a 2-0 victory over Chapungu at Ascot on Saturday.

The result meant FC Platinum finished the season with 72 points, two ahead of Dynamos who beat Chicken Inn 1-0 at the National Sports.

Obey Mwerahari scored the solitary goal.

At Ascot, it was all jubilation as FC Platinum players hoisted their coach Mapeza who clinched his second league title after doing the same with Monomotapa in 2008.

And Mapeza was naturally elated after the final whistle.

“Glory to God, “he said.

“We worked hard for this the whole season. I want to thank the players, the executive, my family especially my wife and kids, they are not here today but they have been very supportive.

“I also want to thank my father, he has also been supportive,” said Mapeza.
