TARGETING players in England for Zimbabwe’s national team could be one of the solutions to finding future replacements for Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat, a Dynamos legend Memory Mucherahowa has said.

Billiat and Musona, both 26, have been exceptional but there are no players showing signs that they could step into their footsteps.

Mucherahowa, who is based in the UK, says the association should ensure all clubs have junior teams while at the same time making sure that a strategy to lure professional players in England is put in place.

A number of young Zimbabwean born players are scattered across England playing in academies of professional teams.

Although there is more talent in the country, the development of players in England has been miles better than that of local players.

“They need to engage them. One way or the other we have got so many people who can do that for them here if you look at former players who are in the UK but it seems they don’t want to either approach them or its just ignorance I don’t know.

“Like what I said I hope Dr Chiyangwa will do things differently and start looking into it. People are willing to help same as me,” Mucherehowa told SportsZone.

Of late Tino Kadewere, 21, in Sweden and Walter Musona, 21, who has moved to South Africa, have shown they could be up for the challenge.

Chances are however that there are a number of Under 20 Zimbabwean players in the UK, playing at different academies, at the same level.

Some of them will in the future opt to play for England if Zifa fails to make a plan to give them a chance to play for the national team.

Mucherahowa said while the UK strategy will be a great option, the association must make it compulsory for all teams to have junior teams in all age groups.

 “I think it should be compulsory. They should also introduce some sort of league format for Under 19 and teams should be forced to use the players as their reserve side.

“I also understand that most of the teams are struggling financially. But Zifa should look for sponsors for this league. I hope the Zifa president is a very clear man and we hope he is busy sorting out something about it,” said Mucherahowa.
